A Storm Themed Baby Shower: Fun and Easy Decorations
I hosted a Storm themed baby shower recently for my cousin (who’s last name is Storm). It was so much fun putting together all the decorations, my favorite was the balloon cloud, by far!
Since we had Krew, and all the gathering restrictions from Covid are behind us, I have been able to host a couple of baby showers. And I really think that hosting a baby shower after infertility is a sweet little victory.
When we were in the thick of the fertility struggle baby showers were HARD. Like physically, mentally, and emotionally hard. I’m talking pit in my stomach, anxious, bite my lip to not cry hard. I know for those who have never gone through infertility this might seem extreme. And it is not how we want to feel.. at all! I think I can speak for most of my fellow infertility warriors when I say, we wish nothing more than to be there and be excited and happy for our friends and family. But I got to the point where I just couldn’t go, but that was hard too.
And I’m not trying to say that having a baby takes away all of the pain that infertility brings, unfortunately it doesn’t happen like that. But it is better. And I think I have enjoyed hosting that much more because of those years I couldn’t enjoy it.

Storm Decorations
Balloon Storm Cloud
Balloons are an easy and fairly reasonable way to add some fun decorations. Now people are doing crazy things with balloons. Beautiful balloon arches and columns and so much more.
I had found a cloud balloon on Pinterest and wanted to recreate it. Levi had the idea to add lights to make it look like lightning, and I have to say it turned out really cool. We used these lights and just left them on the roll and stuck them into the balloons. I also added this crystal garland to look like rain. I used 260 balloons (which are just the long skinny balloons) to tie the crystals to the balloons. I also use them to tie the balloon clusters together. I learned all about making balloon garland from this YouTube video.
To attach it to the ceiling I used the hooks that came with the balloon kit, but they are similar to these. They worked fairly well, they did fall a few times, and had to switch one out for an eye hook.
Balloon Garland
We also did a balloon garland. I’ve done several now, and each time it gets easier. The first time I just used the plastic strip that came with the balloon kit, and it worked! But after watching the YouTube video I talked about a second ago, it is SO MUCH EASIER! And it looks better.
A few tips for making a balloon arch. First just buy an electric ballon pump, it is worth skipping the headache of trying to use a hand pump or heaven forbid blowing them up yourself (you’d pass out for sure!). The first time we did one we used an air compressor, and that worked but we popped a lot of balloon and it wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be. This balloon pump is 100% worth the $20 investment.
Second, use quality balloons. I have used the Etsy shop Glitterati the last several times and I have been SUPER happy with their customer service and the quality of the balloons. With the higher quality balloons I feel like I can move them around and I’m not worried they are going to pop. Plus they look better.
Other Decor
I also found these cute napkins from an Etsy shop and cupcake toppers that were perfect for the storm themed baby shower! I used pillow fill to make cloud fluff around my *fake* candles. And used the vase inside a vase trick to create the clouds around my flowers. The cutouts I did on a Cricut.
Food
In our family everyone usually pitches in. We did lots of appetizers and cupcakes. I was going to do a charcuterie board, but luckily my cousin stepped in and took over. And she did a BEAUTIFUL job!
I really loved getting to celebrate my cousin and the newest Baby Storm on the way. And I am so grateful that I am in a now in place mentally and emotionally now that not only can I attend a baby shower, but I can help host one. *But if you aren’t there, be easy on yourself, it’s so difficult*
